Advice to Government

Advice to Government

The NOC has a wealth of scientific expertise that it draws upon to advise the UK Government and international bodies on ocean affairs.

We have supported the UK Government in many ways including by; advising on claims for continental shelf extensions under Article 76 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, supported UK leadership in the G7 Future of the Oceans initiative, provided advice to Defra on the use of marine autonomous systems for mapping and monitoring Marine Protected Areas, and supported the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in relation to the Commonwealth Marine Economies Programme.

We also provide input to Government and Parliamentary consultation on a variety of issues where we are able to bring marine science based evidence. These consultation contributions can be seen here.
