New space mission to improve knowledge of our environment launching in 2024

  • An ambitious new programme co-led by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) will enable reliable and cost-effective measurements of Earth from space.

NOC contributes to a new free online course

Satellite oceanographers at NOC have contributed to a new massive open online course, or MOOC. The course launch is timed to coincide with wider release of data from Sentinel-3, the dedicated ocean satellite launched earlier this year.

A new method of tracking ocean currents from space has been developed by NASA scientists and verified using data from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC).

Measuring the impact of breaking waves on climate change

An ocean buoy developed by the National Oceanography Centre is currently measuring the characteristics of waves breaking in the open ocean off the coast of Newfoundland. The findings will feed into assessments of how gas and aerosol exchange at the surface of the ocean impacts climate change.

Space agency launches lesson-writing competition

An international lesson-writing competition was launched recently by the European Space Agency’s LearnEO! project, which is hosted by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC).
