Visiting NOC Southampton

There are a number of ways to reach the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton. Local public transport and cycle maps are available in the NOC Southampton reception area and are downloadable below.

Please note that NOC is located within the Southampton Docks area, operated by the Associated British Ports (ABP). When entering the docks, you may be stopped by ABP Security and asked to present ID.

More Information

We're about a 5-minute walk from Dock Gate 4 and Dock Gate 5 via lit pedestrian walkways. Please be cautious of large vehicles when crossing roads in the dock area.

We're well-connected to the Southampton City Cycle Network. You can use the dual-use cycleway from Dock Gate 4. We have covered cycle parking, showers, and changing facilities onsite. Please use bike lights and wear high-visibility clothing when cycling in the docks after dusk.

Southampton Central is the nearest station, with frequent services from London Waterloo (approx. 90 minutes). A taxi rank is located outside the station.

We're served by several UniLink bus services, including the U1A, U1C, and U1E. These routes connect to the city centre, Southampton Central Railway Station, and the airport.

National Express coaches stop at the Southampton Central Bus Station, a short walk from the railway station, where you can connect to local buses or taxis.

Red Funnel operates frequent ferries from Cowes, Isle of Wight, to Town Quay in Southampton. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk to our centre.

Visiting NOC Liverpool

Our Liverpool centre is located on the University of Liverpool campus. You can find detailed directions and a campus map below.

We're a 10-15 minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street station and the main city centre shopping areas.

Liverpool Lime Street is the nearest station (a 10-minute walk). From the station's main entrance, turn right onto London Road, continue to Pembroke Place, and then turn right onto Brownlow Street.

Liverpool Central is also a 10-minute walk away.

National Rail Enquiries

From the M62: Follow signs for the city centre via Edge Lane (A5047). Turn left from West Derby Street onto Brownlow Street.

From the M53 / Wallasey Tunnel: Follow signs for the city centre. From Byrom Street, turn right onto Norton Street, left onto London Road/Pembroke Place, and then right onto Brownlow Street.

Parking: There is no dedicated visitor parking at our building. Pay-and-display parking is available on the surrounding streets.
