Unique opportunity for students
Unique opportunity for students to explore marine science

Applications are now open for the National Oceanography Centre (NOC)  and Creative Tuition Collective (CTC) 2026 Virtual Work Experience Week.

An engaging and interactive programme designed for young people, aged 14–19, with an interest in ocean science, STEM, creativity, and alternative career pathways.

For the second year, NOC is collaborating with CTC to provide a unique opportunity for students to explore marine science, while also gaining essential career skills and networking with some of the top ocean scientists, engineers and researchers in their field. Apply to find out about NOC science, why it matters and collaborate with other students to design a theoretical solution to a real-world issue!

The fully virtual programme will run on weekdays, from Wednesday 5 August to Wednesday 12 August (inclusive) and has been designed to provide students with a supportive and collaborative learning experience, which encourages their curiosity and creativity to flourish.

Last year’s inaugural programme was a huge success, with previous students sharing positive feedback. They said:

  • “It could’ve been a boring week, but it wasn’t because of the great people running it and all the amazing students who took part.”
  • “I learned stuff that is actually useful, with more freedom to explore different learning styles.”
  • “It was an opportunity to combine science and creativity without curriculum limitations.”

Our Virtual Work Experience Week is all about giving young people an inclusive space, where they can see themselves in ocean science and STEM. We want them to explore ideas, develop their interest and see all the different ways that they could have a future in this exciting area.

Alice Kloker, Public Engagement Manager at NOC

This year’s programme will cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Arctic science, change & global challenges
  • Ocean-related STEM careers & interdisciplinary research
  • Networking with real scientists and like-minded students
  • Designing solutions to real-world marine and social issues
  • Essential career skills including CV writing & career planning
  • Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in STEM

Applications are open until 11 June 2026. Apply here.
