Oliver Flanagan
Biography
Oli is a former researcher for the GEOTRACES program whose work focused on the understanding the role of particulates in influencing the biogeochemical cycles of trace elements, like iron and manganese, across diverse scales from regional dynamic systems to the global oceans. His work has explored the role of hydrothermal systems in the Atlantic, glacial dusts in the Pacific, and iron cycling in both the Arctic Ocean and coastal Antarctica. While as a researcher, Oli has contributed significantly to the public outreach of oceanography, through public science festivals, school visits, and working with academic societies to develop Ocean Literacy.
Oli now works for the British Oceanographic Data Centre, bringing with him intimate knowledge and experience of ocean chemistry, chemical sampling and analytical techniques, and experience with global and regional machine learning models for oceanography.
