Dr Sourav Sahoo
Biography
Senior Scientist in Geophysics and Underwater Acoustics
My research focuses on multi-scale geophysical quantification, from microscale processes to field-scale observations.
My research focuses on multi-scale geophysical quantification, from microscale processes to field-scale observations.
My work combines laboratory rock physics, synchrotron imaging, electrical resistivity, borehole logs, seismic data, optical fibre sensing, underwater acoustics and rock physics modelling to quantify sediment and fluid-flow systems. I specialise in multi-frequency P- and S-wave velocity and attenuation measurements across seismic-to-ultrasonic frequencies, and in linking laboratory measurements to field-scale geophysical interpretation.
My research supports applications in gas hydrate and CO₂ quantification, subsea permafrost, offshore carbon storage, sea-ice characterisation, marine geohazards, autonomous seabed monitoring and defence-relevant underwater acoustics.
